About
I am a Full Professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics, Institute of Physics, Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), and a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow (Level 2). I received my Ph.D. from UFRJ in 2009 (Magna Cum Laude) and have been a permanent faculty member at UERJ since 2010.
My research addresses non-perturbative aspects of quantum field theory along three complementary lines. In the first, I work on the Gribov problem in non-abelian gauge theories and the Refined Gribov–Zwanziger (RGZ) framework for confinement in QCD. In the second, I investigate topological phases and topological defects, including defect condensation via the Julia–Toulouse mechanism, Chern–Simons theories, disorder operators, and applications to topological insulators and Weyl superconductors. In the third, more recent line, I investigate quantum information properties — Bell-CHSH and Mermin inequality violations, Araki–Uhlmann relative entropy, and entanglement measures — in relativistic quantum field theory, using Weyl operators and Tomita–Takesaki modular theory. A unifying thread of my current work is the theory of type III von Neumann algebras — modular theory, entanglement embezzlement, and crossed-product constructions — with emerging connections to holography and the quantum-information structure of spacetime.
I have published 88 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, with five further preprints currently under review (h-index 18, Web of Science), and supervise doctoral and master’s students across these research lines. I am also a UERJ Prociência fellow and a participant in the CAPES-PrInt programme on strong interactions.
Recent Announcements
Promotion to Full Professor
I have been promoted to Full Professor (Professor Titular) at the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Institute of Physics, UERJ, where I have been a permanent faculty member since 2010.
Three preprints published in journals
Three of the five preprints announced in July have now been published. My single-author paper A Lorentzian Gribov no-pole condition for Yang-Mills theory appeared in Phys. Rev. D (114, 045024, arXiv:2606.08697). The other two, written with J. G. A. Caribé, I. Roditi and S. P. Sorella, continue the Bell-CHSH programme: Bosonization, vertex operators and maximal violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality in wedge regions appeared as a Letter in the same issue (Phys. Rev. D 114, L041702, arXiv:2604.18513), and Modular Theory and the Bell-CHSH inequality in relativistic scalar Quantum Field Theory in Eur. Phys. J. C (86, 823, arXiv:2603.25873). See the Publications page for the full list.
Openings for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students
I currently have openings for undergraduate research (PIBIC), M.Sc., and Ph.D. supervision. In particular, three already-defined master’s projects are available, on crossed-product algebras in QFT, condensation defects in lattice gauge theories, and gauge/gravity duality. See the Students page for details and contact information.
Five new preprints
Five preprints were posted between November 2025 and June 2026 and submitted to journals. They include my first single-author paper, A Lorentzian Gribov no-pole condition for Yang-Mills theory (arXiv:2606.08697), which extends the Gribov no-pole condition to Lorentzian signature. The other four, in collaboration with J. G. A. Caribé, I. Roditi, S. P. Sorella, and A. F. Vieira, extend the Bell-CHSH and relative-entropy programme to Majorana fields, bosonization and vertex operators, modular theory in scalar QFT, and the mass dependence of the Araki–Uhlmann relative entropy. See the Publications page for the full list.
New papers in Phys. Rev. D and Eur. Phys. J. C
Two papers from the quantum-information line were published in 2026: Cat states and violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality in relativistic Quantum Field Theory (Phys. Rev. D 113, 065008, arXiv:2601.05216) and Bell-CHSH inequality and unitary transformations in Quantum Field Theory (Eur. Phys. J. C 86, 230, arXiv:2412.03840).
