Statement
Problem 3.4 of Goto et al.: if the observer is a genuine dynamical degree of freedom (with stress-energy, hence backreacting), how does the measurement process modify the semiclassical geometry and the observable algebra? The paper connects this to the Island formula and to the crossed-product “observer’s algebra.”
Why It Matters
This is the Theme-2 problem closest to the group’s toolkit: the crossed product with a bounded-below observer Hamiltonian is exactly how CLPW/CPW promote a type III₁ algebra to a traceable type II one, giving finite generalized entropy. It is the direct parent of the group-specific project observer-algebra-bell-chsh, and it is where the group’s flat-space crossed-product analog (AQFT course Sem II) can actually compute.
What We Know
- CLPW/CPW: the dressed (crossed-product) algebra is type II; the observer’s Hamiltonian supplies the clock/trace, and the vacuum acquires a finite, maximal-entropy interpretation.
- Backreaction of a heavy observer alters the QES / entanglement wedge.
- The free-field crossed-product analog is worked out in the course; observables dressed by the clock differ from bare ones.
Possible Approaches
- Compute how a dressed measurement shifts the modular Hamiltonian / generalized entropy in the free-field analog.
- Redo a Bell-CHSH or relative-entropy computation on the dressed type II algebra — see observer-algebra-bell-chsh.
