Bibliography and Paper Map

Reading guide for the generalized-symmetries course. This maps each reference to its role; it is not a complete bibliography of a field that would need several hundred entries. Every entry was verified against INSPIRE-HEP, arXiv or Crossref on 2026-09-27 (78 references; record in reviews/2026-09-27-comprehensive-review.md §6); new entries are verified when they are added.

How to read the references

Three levels, same discipline as the AQFT course:

The classic spine. Semester I primary material. These get read in full, and their central calculations get reproduced in problem sets. Most are short; the style is terse and the lecture notes supply the missing steps.

Books and reviews. Companions, not spines. Students keep two open per semester (Kogut + Savit in Sem I; McGreevy + Shao in Sem II) and consult the rest.

Research papers. Semester II seminar material. For each one, the presenter must identify: the technical claim, what it needs from Semester I, the one calculation worth reproducing, and the open problem it leaves.
